Being proud of the products of the island’s agriculture, most restaurants in Santorini are happy to offer their clients a taste of the local culinary specialties.  Whether you’d like a taste of traditional daily food, as if from Greek grandma’s kitchen or you’d like to be seduced by exquisite tastes and unexpected combinations, you will find a great choice of restaurants in Santorini.

You still might find the typical taverns, with their paper napkin-type of tablecloths and glaring lighting tubes – Greeks want to see what they eat! – where you will be served your favorite,  Greek, traditional dishes, such as moussakas, pastitio, grilled meat and Greek salad. However, nowadays, most taverns in Santorini add a modern touch with regard for tradition, both to the menu and the styling of the place.

In Fira, Oia, Imerovigli and Firostefani there are many excellent restaurants to choose from. Among them are award winning restaurants where renowned chefs create delicious and aesthetic dishes with the best of the traditional products of Santorini. Most of them have the caldera as the perfect background for a romantic dinner. But also in Pyrgos and the other villages of Santorini’s inland there are quite some good places to eat.

Plenty of fish taverns are located along the coast, next to the beach and at small harbors such as the harbor of Ammoudi. Favorite seafood dishes besides fresh fish are octopus, squid and calamari. Combine your seafood mezedes with a glass of ouzo or local wine.
