The Museum of Prehistoric Thira has a rich collection of findings from excavations at Akrotiri, the early excavations at Potamo, and rescue excavations at various other locations on the island, as well as randomly discovered objects or donations.
Emphasis has been given to four sections of the exhibition: the history of archaeological research in Thira, the geology of Thira, the history and archaeological findings from the Late Neolithic period to the Late Cycladic I period (early 17th century B.C.), and last but not least, a special reference to the flourishing period of the town of Akrotiri, which occurred before the eruption of the volcano of Thira.
During the summer months the museum is open daily from 8.30 until 20.00, except on Mondays. For further information call +30 22860 23217 or visit the official website of the Municipality of Thira.
